I hate and I love . Perhaps you ask why i do this.
I know not, but i feel that it is happening, and am tormented greatly.
~Gaius Valerius Catullus (ca. 84 BC – ca. 54 BC)

Nothing is 'up'...I was looking up 'epigram' and came across this one and it struck my fancy (no so hard as to induce pain or bruising).
But really, hasn't everyone thought at one time that things would be better without emotions messing with matters.
In a world without hate and love, things would make much more sense, IMHO.
I'm all for logic and rational thinking....ruling.
